With the dramatic southeasterly views, you’ll find in Coral Bay yet a location that’s not as far out as the island’s smaller main town, Ajax and Mamey Peak offer the best of both worlds. These peaceful neighborhoods are situated off blink-and-you’ll-miss-them entrances from Centerline between Bordeaux and Coral Bay.
Ajax and Mamey Peak are ideal jumping-off points for exploring some of the island’s most special attractions. Just five minutes to Coral Bay, it’s easy to drive down to this tiny island town for shopping at one of the handfuls of markets or dining out on the waterfront, where you’ll find a decent variety of restaurants. This area also offers quick access to Salt Pond beach and the Ram Head hike and snorkeling Lameshur Bay. With less than a 10-minute drive, you can be swimming among the turtles at Maho Bay. Ajax and Mamey Peak are also situated about a 15-minute drive from the island’s most far-flung locale, the East End, where beautiful beaches and the utmost in peace and solitude await.
Several of St. John’s incredible hikes are also just a stone’s throw from Ajax and Mamey Peak. The Johnny Horn Trail entrance, right next to the historic Emmaus Moravian Church, is less than 10 minutes by car, as is the popular Reef Bay hike, and the lesser known but incredibly beautiful Maria Hope Trail.
These neighborhoods are situated on hillsides above quiet Coral Bay, meaning properties here take advantage of beautifully cooling breezes and dramatic, sweeping ocean and down island views. It’s not uncommon to encounter some of the island’s most iconic wildlife in this area; donkeys and deer are known to frequent these neighborhoods. Enjoy natural beauty, tranquility, and proximity to shopping, restaurants, and beautiful beaches and hiking in Ajax and Mamey Peak.
