Hakuna Matata is Swahili for “no worries.”

And this luxury home effortlessly straddles stylistic boundaries of old world architecture, from Moroccan fantasy to Island Plantation House, while introducing comfort and understated elegance. Enter through majestic doors 13 feet tall, beautifully crafted from rustic aged wood.

Hakuna matata, located in Estate Catherineberg, has the most unimaginable views of the surrounding water and hillsides in the U.S. Virgin Islands National Park — on the north shore of the island of St. John, in the United States Virgin Islands. In such a spectacular location as this, the owners wanted a home that wouldn’t take itself too seriously, but would also not compromise on beauty and comfort.

The interior of the home is decorated with artwork from around the world. The bedrooms are styled in either a Peter Pan ‘pirate fancy’ or exotic jungle safari. Once through the towering front doors, enter a courtyard foyer with a pleasing sound of water fountains. You are immediately pulled towards the magnificent view of the aquamarine colors of Cinnamon Bay, St. John, and the surrounding hills and Virgin Islands.

The tropical blue bedroom is located at the top of a wide, ivy covered staircase. Once inside the affectionately nicknamed Peter Pan Room, you’ll find a twin tern post the mahogany beds, which can be made up individually or combined into a king bed. Out on the balcony is a hanging swing and large comfortable cushion chairs. Each bedroom has a private veranda along with en suite bath and an intimate outdoor shower.

Across the upper passage, which affords elevated views of Cinnamon Bay and the British Virgin Islands, is the master suite. Through an antique entry door from Morocco, you enter a spacious bedroom with mahogany, four poster bed, bedside tables and armoire from Indonesia. And a his or her vanity bath that share an outdoor shower with an amazing ocean view.

Worthy of the most stylish home design magazine, this luxury home is exquisitely decorated with art and furnishings from around the globe.

Nowhere is this more obvious than the great room through French doors, on the main level is the great room and dining room. Most of the rugs are from Morocco and an antique door from Meric Cash was made into a coffee table.

The grounds surrounding this St John luxury villa are wildly landscaped with fully grown, lush tropical vegetation.

There is a tall stone stairway that brings you to the pool deck, where you’ll be surrounded by the pleasant sound of jungle waterfalls. The hot tub is connected to the free-form pool, with a Stone Creek bed inlaid into the brick. The pool deck is so secluded and surrounded with indigenous Virgin Islands vegetation as to create an intimate jungle oasis, which includes an incredibly romantic outdoor table for two or more. Up a short flight of stairs from the pool deck is a handsomely crafted outdoor shower, half bath and the entry to the Jungle Room with King-Size reed woven bed. The en suite bath and shower area are fashioned from local stonework, and the balcony is surrounded by the nearby forest and cool and quiet.

On the eastern-most side of the house is a high ceiling, French style country kitchen.  Despite its charm, this is a working kitchen with details such as a hammered copper farm, sink and range hood. The kitchen leads to three distinctly different dining areas. The main indoor dining area within the great room, the al fresco dining area off of the veranda, as well as a vine covered, high walled European courtyard next to the circular drive.

The main floor bedroom was designed as a retreat from the rest of the house and is equipped with a mini kitchen table and chairs and beds that can be made into two twins or one king.

Hakuna Matata is a private four bedroom villa on a secluded hillside surrounded by the Virgin Islands National Park with the immense, breathtaking views of Cinnamon Bay and the British Virgin Islands. Whatever your expectations are of a luxury Caribbean home, Hakuna Matata is sure to exceed them.
